Dr. Mariama I. Cook Sandifer received her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Sandifer is currently an Associate Professor of Counseling at Grand Canyon University. Prior to becoming a counselor educator, she spent 14 years in the public school system as a national and state certified school counselor and is a licensed professional counselor supervisor. Her counseling experience covered a wide array of diverse populations and required targeted strategies to meet their needs and she uses primarily a solution-focused approach.
Dr. Sandifer believes in using her voice to advocate for societal change in order to improve the lives of the nation's youth. She has provided several workshops and trainings on school culture and school-community relationships. Her research areas include school counseling program implementation and interventions, school culture, post degree supervision of school counselors, and social justice and advocacy in counseling. |
